Gas Conversion for Those with New Access to Natural Gas

If you are one of the many people who have recently been given access to natural gas, then you are likely chomping at the bit to start running your appliances on it. But what is the process actually like? Here at Smart Systems, we wanted to explain a little bit about the gas conversion process and what you should expect.

Give one of our friendly gas conversion experts a call if you would like further information.

Gas Conversion Process

Since natural gas has only recently become available in our area, few homeowners actually have a natural gas line coming into their homes. While some people might have a propane tank on their property, this will not work for natural gas.

The first order of business is to install a new natural gas line. To do this, a long trench will need to be dug from the street to your home and the supply line buried in it. This will likely be the most expensive part of the process. We offer gas piping services throughout the Hudson Valley area, so feel free to reach out to us for help.

Once that is done, the next thing is to run the gas lines throughout your home. If you’re anticipating having several gas-fired appliances like water heaters, furnaces or ranges then you will need more gas lines throughout your home.

After that, you’ll need to have the new appliances installed by a professional HVAC contractor. This is a huge benefit to homeowners that want to get the best performance possible from their heating or water heater equipment. If your contractor is able to make the final connections between the appliances and the gas line then they will do that as well.

Incentives for Switching to Natural Gas

The process of adding a new natural gas line can be fairly cost intensive. To encourage people to use natural gas, some gas providers will offer incentives. Some will pay for part of the cost of installing the line, others will pay to remove your old propane tank and fill in the hole. Some may even pay for part of the cost of your gas-fired equipment. Make sure you do your research to see if any of these incentives exist in your area.

When our need any kind of HVAC installation services make sure that you call the experts at Smart Systems. We can also talk with you about the gas conversion process if you have any further questions.
